Galatasaray’s First Goal vs. Man Utd: Possible Rule Breach

Reports suggest that Galatasaray’s opening goal against Manchester United in their recent clash “should not have been allowed” due to an obscure regulation.

The Red Devils’ pursuit of Champions League qualification suffered a significant setback as they played out a thrilling 3-3 draw with the Turkish giants on Wednesday.

Erik ten Hag’s side saw Alejandro Garnacho open the scoring, followed by Bruno Fernandes doubling their advantage with an exceptional long-range strike.

However, the momentum was tempered when Hakim Ziyech scored from a curling free-kick that seemed to breach regulations, according to beIN Sports. They contend that all attacking players must maintain a minimum distance of one meter from the wall until the ball is in play. Galatasaray’s positioning, reportedly standing a mere 61 centimeters away, potentially rendered Ziyech’s goal ineligible.

Despite Scott McTominay later restoring United’s two-goal lead in the second half, Ziyech’s successful free-kick against Andre Onana added to their woes. Karem Akturkoglu completed the comeback, leaving Manchester United in a precarious position.

Had Ziyech’s initial goal been disallowed, it would have had a significant impact on United’s standing in Group A. To retain any chance of advancing to the knockout stages, United must secure a victory against Bayern Munich at Old Trafford and hope for favorable results in other fixtures.
