Haaland Fumes as Leipzig Leads; City Stages Comeback

Erling Haaland’s demeanor mirrored the collective astonishment as Manchester City found themselves trailing 2-0 at home against RB Leipzig, only to orchestrate a stunning comeback.

Despite securing a berth in the Champions League’s last 16 after a commanding 3-0 victory over Young Boys, City’s anticipated dominance was absent in the initial stages of the match.

Leipzig’s Lois Openda broke the deadlock 13 minutes into the game, expertly slotting the ball into the bottom corner from goalkeeper Janis Blaswich’s long pass. The 23-year-old swiftly added a second goal, cutting inside and unleashing a precise strike past City’s defense.

Cameras captured Haaland’s disbelief as City’s star striker watched his team concede two goals on their home turf. Though presented with an opportunity, Haaland’s attempt to retaliate soared over the crossbar, leaving City trailing at halftime.

However, Haaland initiated City’s resurgence with an early second-half goal, narrowing the deficit. Phil Foden furthered the comeback with a composed finish, leveling the score.

Leipzig’s hopes of reclaiming the lead were dashed when Fabio Carvalho’s goal was disallowed due to offside. Eventually, City seized control as substitute Julian Alvarez netted from inside the box, propelling them to a late lead.

Pep Guardiola’s side maintained an unblemished record in Group G, securing victory with just one match remaining in the group stage.
