Jurgen Klopp Criticizes Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia During Liverpool Stand Grand Opening
Jurgen Klopp has taken a subtle jab at Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia for opting to join Chelsea over Liverpool during the summer transfer window. Both midfielders were at the center of intense transfer sagas, ultimately securing moves to Chelsea for a combined total of £153 million.
Despite Liverpool entering the race for Caicedo with a £110 million bid and a scheduled medical, the Ecuadorian midfielder chose Chelsea, signing an eight-year contract with the Blues. Similarly, Lavia, Liverpool’s backup option, had agreed to terms with Southampton, only for Chelsea to intervene once again as the former Manchester City player opted for the west London club.
Liverpool, faced with these setbacks, turned to signings such as Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Wataru Endo to fill the void left by Jordan Henderson, James Milner, and Fabinho. Currently leading the league, Liverpool seems to have overcome the challenges.
Discussing Liverpool’s summer dealings, Klopp remarked, “We had a few strange things happen. Between us, my god, were we lucky. We didn’t know that in the moment. Obviously, we realized other central defensive midfielders didn’t want to join… then you see what happens!”
Following the double snub, Liverpool secured the services of Wataru Endo, agreeing to a £16 million deal with VFT Stuttgart. Klopp praised the 30-year-old Japanese midfielder, describing him as an exceptional player.
Liverpool is set to face Union Saint-Gilloise in the Europa League final group game, although the focus is already on the crucial clash with Manchester United on Sunday, given their secured position as group winners.
