Klopp: Unlikely January Centre-Back Signing for Liverpool, Possible Matip Deal

Liverpool’s coach, Jurgen Klopp, doesn’t think they’ll get a new defender unless they find an amazing player available. Joel Matip got hurt and won’t play for the rest of the season because of a bad knee injury.

Now, Liverpool only has four healthy defenders for the middle: Virgil van Dijk, Ibrahima Konate, Joe Gomez, and Jarell Quansah.

When Klopp talked about their upcoming game with Crystal Palace, he said it’s tough to get new players. He explained that finding the right player costs money and it’s not easy to find someone top-notch who’s ready to play for Liverpool.

Liverpool knew Matip would be out for a long time, which is a big problem. Klopp said having four defenders is fine, but if they get injured, it could be tricky because they have a lot of games coming up.

He mentioned they won’t magically find a great defender to borrow until Matip gets better. Klopp doesn’t think they’ll sign anyone new, unless some other team magically gives them a great player.

Losing Matip is a big setback for Liverpool, who are close behind Arsenal in the league with 34 points, just two points away from the top.

Matip, who’s 32, got injured during a match against Fulham and will have an operation.

Klopp also said he thinks the club will do something nice for Matip because he’s been with them for a long time and got hurt.
